It is hard to believe that 9 months have passed already and my much awaited baby boy has finally arrived. It has been an amazing journey to watch Britt change through her pregnancy with our baby. From the day she came home claiming a heightened sense of smell to watching her rub her belly to let Aspen know Momma is there to seeing her battling through the pains of labor and kicking labor's butt, it has been an amazing experience for me to get to watch from afar and see the changes in her. There is no doubt in my mind she is going to be a wonderful mother and I am lucky to have her as my team mate in raising our son.
I really should have tried to write more regularly throughout Britt's pregnancy to help me remember everything, but I will try to do my best here. As for all men, the job is easy in the whole pregnancy thing. I did my job way back in March. We had decided late Winter 2013 that we would start trying for our first child. We both thought it would likely take some time for the whole fertilization thing to happen, so we planned to just do our thing initially and not do too much tracking on the ovulation stuff until we felt it was necessary. We quickly found out that we are one of the lucky couples and our reproductive organs are fully functioning. In April, Britt began to have some heightened smell and started to think she was pregnant. I thought there was no way as we had just started trying, so I just brushed off her comments. Britt was still adamant and purchased a pregnancy test. On April 19 prior to leaving for our MBA class, Britt came out with the stick in her hand and gave me a big smile. I was in shock and didn't believe the results. Looking back on it, I am really disappointed in my reaction. I had always expected the two of us to be jumping around the house in joy, but instead I was challenging the results of the test. Throughout class that night, obviously we couldn't focus and wanted to buy some more pregnancy tests and get home for Britt to get her pee on. After three tests and three positive results, I was still in a little shock

Once we (really only me) were confident, we started to scheme how we would tell our family. My mom is a nurse and we came up with the idea to act like Britt was having an irregular heart beat and she needed to check Britt's heart. After several minutes of going with this irregular heart beat story, we would have her move her stethoscope down to Britt's belly. The plan worked perfectly and below is the video evidence. Pay close attention to my Dad in the background. He is a little slow and didn't figure out Britt was pregnant until 30 seconds after the rest of my family. Classic!
For Britt's family, we bought a large Coke bottle bank. Britt's Mom has a Coke bottle bank for all her grandkids to help save up for trips to DisneyWorld. We gave it to her on Mother's day, so she thought it was just a present. In the bottle was a note with the great news of the future arrival of her 6th grandchild.
At 16 weeks, I finally got the proof that our little one was on the way when I got to hear the sound of his little heart in Britt's belly. A sound that brought tears to Britt and my eyes and one I will never forget.
At week 20, we were able to see our baby for the first time on ultrasound. Getting to see him kick and move his arms was amazing and another tear came to our eyes.

During the summer, we took our usual trip out to Colorado with Don and Janet. While out there, we decided to take some pictures for our baby announcement. I'm looking forward to hiking with my son this summer and I couldn't wait to try out the baby carrier!

We had decided several weeks earlier that we would go on a trip to Hawaii as our last hurrah before the baby's arrival. We decided we would wait to find out our baby's sex and would have the nurse put the news in an envelope for us to open when we got to Hawaii for a special moment on the beach. We had to wait several grueling weeks before we could open that envelope. I was surprise Britt was able to make it as she is notorious for snooping around for Christmas and birthday presents. We are both glad we waited as it provided a great moment for us one morning on the beach with a great sunrise in the background. Britt had been adamant all along that our baby would be a boy and I was sure the baby would be a girl. Needless to say, Britt was right as you can see from the pics below.

Along the way we took photos of Britt to track the ever growing bulge in mid-section area. I made the mistake one day and told her that her belly was getting fat. I thought this would be a complement by letting her know that she was doing a great job growing our baby. Man was I wrong. Below is the progression of pregnant Britt. Pay attention to her choice of clothing along the way. As time went on, I routinely found myself looking for clothes that I was missing!
Britt kicked pregnancy's butt as can be seen from her photos. Not once did I have to make a late night trip for a food craving. I didn't hear her complain about nausea, being tired, her back hurting, or the late night cramps she would get in her calves. She is a super tough woman! I have been blessed with a wonderful wife and partner to raise our baby boy.
So that is the short version of the last 9 months. It is hard to believe that it went so fast and our little guy is here. Major changes in our lives are now upon us, but it is all for the better. We are both looking forward to the road ahead!
