Milestones.

March 19th.
Yesterday, I noticed for the first time, that Aspen has finally acknowledged the dogs.  For the first time, he followed Buddy with his eyes.  Then, today, as he was following Buddy who was being an annoying dog with a toy in his mouth, Aspen gave him three separate smiles.  I guess he does love dogs after all.

Tonight starts March Madness with the play-in games.  I decided to put Aspen in the Bumbo and see what he would do.  He absolutely loved the Bumbo and even more, watching the game on TV.  But, it wasn't long before he was zapped and passed out. Until tomorrow...

2 Months Down...Mom and Dad sad time is flying by so fast!

It’s cliché to say, but time sure flies when you are having fun! In fact it flies so fast, that I am already a month behind on updating our blog with pictures, blog posts, etc.  This can’t be good, I am already sensing I need to hire a nanny just so I can keep upJ

In the past month, we have grown to love Aspen’s little dimple on his left cheek which we see quite frequently with every smile he shares.  He has become a very happy baby, with his brightest smiles coming early in the morning.  He definitely didn’t pick up that trait from his father.  Hooray, let’s celebrate, he isn’t his father’s son on every little thingJ  There is hope….

Not only that, he continues to show us how strong he truly is.  He has started holding his own weight on his legs for extended periods of time and is definitely head strong in more ways than one.
At his check-up, the doctor thinks he will be 6 foot 1,  which would be taller than his whole family.
Additionally, he is in the 53% for weight, 93% for height, and 89% for weight.  I told Ted today that means he has the perfect combination: he will be a skinny, tall, smart boy!  Sounds like the perfect combination for a starting guard for the Iowa State Basketball Team!

Things we have learned:

From Dada:

-How to deal with crying.  Aspen likes to be rocked or bounced to quiet down for Dada.

-He always cries for a reason.

-Learned how good it feels to come home and see Aspen and Ma.  Makes me definitely appreciate the little things in life and appreciate family much more.

-Babies poop and their poop stinksJ

-Time really flies much more quickly then previously thought.  It really requires you to cherish your time at home.

-Being a baby would be a pretty sweet gig.

-Babies don’t care if you are bad at English because any talk works for them.

-You get a lot more strangers that talk to you in public just so they can peak at the baby.

From Mama:

-I’ve come to love the time of putting Aspen to sleep.  Especially when he fights it, I know I can cradle him in my arms or in my shoulder, throw a blanket over his head, and he’ll soon fall asleep.  I melt when his legs are all scrunched up and he buries his face onto my shoulder or right in front of my chin and I can rest it on top of his head.  LOVE!

-I’ve learned that Target has turned me into a hoarder as I attempt to take advantage of their baby deals.  I mean, really, who buys 15 containers of baby formula besides me just so I could save additional money because I noticed they had mismarked their price.

-I’ve learned that 2 month old’s can have rat tailsJ

-I’ve learned how fortunate Ted and I are to have both of our families around.  There have been so many times we have relied on our families just to accomplish basic tasks.  Without my Dad (and my Mom at times), I wouldn’t have been able to coach basketball.

-I’ve learned that I look, see, and feel differently about everyone else who has a kid or even more so, a baby.  Now I can relate to the general population, where, before, I only knew what it was like to be an awesome Aunt.

-I’ve learned that I still love and cherish my sleep and that I’m extremely fortunate that my baby only wakes me once a night, tops.

A note to my little guy:

Mama wants you to know, that even at two months, you have melted my heart.  The other day I asked you if you would ever tell me you hated me, and without waver, you shook your head no. I’ll remind you of that forever. Trust me.

I can’t get over how much I love chilling with you day in and day out.  Our routine has never changed.  In the morning, you wake up ready to eat.  And I get everything all situated on the bed, turn The Today Show on, grab a pop and granola bar, get pillows built around me so the dogs don’t bother us, and prop you up on my legs.  Right away, before you even look for your bottle, you give me a handful of big smiles, all the while I’m smiling back at you.  You have already figured out my phone which makes it difficult for me to snap photos as you can’t look at me and at the phone at the same time. So I secretly have to take pics of you right after I get you to smile for me.  Then, it’s off to the races as you look for the bottle to hit your mouth and you are drinking your milk like it’s nobodies biz.  That’s right, you can chug.  Typically, once I get you burped, it’s time for a heavy diaper change.  And, it seems, you have the poop thing figured out first thing in the morning so if I’m lucky, like today, we clean off your bottom and make you a good smellin baby.

It’s funny how even the littlest things in life can make a person so happy. Whether it be your smiles in the middle of changing diapers, or just feeling the little chub on your legs, or even looking at the back hair you already have, but whatever it is, you brighten our lives like we could have never thought was possible.  Continue to amaze us and teach us everything you can, we are ready, just as we hope you are ready for everything we will teach you.

Love,

Mama

March 29-Big Things Are Happening!

It's finally nice enough to get outside...and so we did!  Da had to get some new work shoes so we went to Dilliard's.  For the first time ever, Da pushed me in the stroller!! Look how excited he was!

We also practice strongman Saturday.  Yeah, I bet you have never heard of it until now.  That's because I made it up...kind of like throw back Thursday .

And oh, while we were out shopping I got my first set of shades. Here is me trying them on at the store.  I am such a ladies man!

And the biggest news of all!
I rolled from my side to my belly!!  Not only today, but on Sunday, not once, but twice!!

Aspen's 2 month check up

We are a little behind on are blogging updates, but promise we will get caught up this weekend.  I just wanted to get a quick update while things were fresh in my mind.  Today, Aspen had his 2 month check up. Coming with his 2 month check up came 3 shots and an oral vaccine.  Britt and I had been somewhat dreading the shots due to stories we had heard from other parents. Well, we should have never been worried. He is received his 3 shots and cried for maybe a whole 20 seconds. Shortly there after, he was smiling and back to him old self.  Our son is a rock star.  An amazing little man that continues to amaze and bring so much enjoyment in our lives.  I cannot express how proud I am of my boy.  I know this won't be the last time I am amazed.  Great job today buddy!
Look at me!  I'm a tough guy!!!

Aspen - you are an AMAZING little boy. I am SO PROUD of you. You are already tougher than your dada!  I would have cried forever and complained for days after because my legs wore sore.  Keep rockin it buddy!  Love you with all my heart- Dada
